Opportunities for involvement in ALT
If you are interested in getting more involved in ALT, please consider standing for election as Vice-Chair of ALT or as a Trustee of ALT. The calling notice is on our website at www.alt.ac.uk and the closing date for receipt of nominations is 31 May.
For those of a more cautious disposition, during May or early June we will also be issuing a call for expressions of interest in membership of each of our four operational committees (Further Education, Membership Services, Publications, and Research).
Staff changes
Adam Marriott and Victoria Watson have moved on. Hayley Willis is now Head of Operations and Events. Naomi Courtenay has
been appointed as Administration Officer (Events and Membership).
Louise Ryan, Publications Manager, has returned from maternity leave.
Lucy Saxton who was covering Louise’s role, has stayed on temporarily
to manage the development of our new website, but will be leaving in
June. I am placing on record ALT’s thanks to Lucy for her work for us
over the last 15 months.
Intellectual Property Office 'Gowers' consultation on proposals on copyright and educational exceptions
Last month ALT responded to round two of the IPO consultation. Our response is available at www.alt.ac.uk/documents.html.
ALT-C 2010: "Into something rich and strange" - making sense of the sea-change
Preparation for the conference is now well in hand, with the face-to-face programme committee meeting held on 21/22 April, and over 260 proposals (our second largest ever) reviewed for inclusion in the programme. Thanks on behalf of ALT to the whole of the committee and to those in editorial roles for their work (in some case very extensive) on the development of the conference programme.
ALT Journal – changes
From 2011, the Association's journal, ALT-J - Research in Learning Technology, will change its name to Research in Learning Technology, the journal of the Association for Learning Technology. Alongside this we have considerably expanded and broadened the membership of the journal’s Editorial Board, as listed below. Later this year we will be issuing a request for proposals from publishers to publish the journal. This does not signify a decision by ALT to part company with our current publisher, rather it represents our determination to ensure that we get best value for our members from our relationship with our publisher.

Associate Membership of ALT – a new membership category
Finally ALT is pleased and proud to announce the launch today of the new Associate Member individual membership category. Associate membership is free for any employee of an organisational or sponsoring member of ALT, and costs £10 per year for all others. There are full details of the new category along with a clear summary of the rights and entitlements of all our membership categories on the ALT website. The overview presentation about the changes at http://repository.alt.ac.uk/763 may also be of interest.
